Self-Identity
February 15, 2010 // Monday

Here I'm trying to create my own mark. After some self-reflection, I felt the Amazon parrot and waves had characteristics that best represent me. Waves are flowy, a constant characteristic of my designs. They can also be gentle or strong, opposites which I'm capable of. The Amazon parrot are beautiful creatures from the rain forest. They're friendly (compared to other birds), coachable, green (mostly) or colorful, bright, and intelligent. I also want to work for a nonprofit organization later on, or do something that involves helping animals or the environment, so the parrot, in this case, was chosen based on who I felt my audience will be.

However, I'm afraid to say I'm not much of an illustrator, which means parrots are a little difficult to draw. I hate that I have to do this mark on the computer this early in the process because there's no time for me to refine and improve my drawings.

I'm having trouble getting excited about this project, probably because I didn't realize beforehand that this was something we had to do, and when I am not prepared, I cannot commit. I want this to be a mark I'm proud of—that says something about me—that's deep and meaning, as with all marks.

But I'm also doing corporate identity for John's class, and so far, I haven't gotten any good feedback from him. I'm a little worried and dreadfully dejected. Thinking of John's class actually makes me want to break down in self-pity.
